Position: Project Accountant

Position Summary/Objective
The Project Accountant is responsible for all accounting of projects/jobs, as well as tracking and analyzing job cost efficiency through the utilization of tracking costs, variations, and statistics/metrics. 
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Analysis of job costs in order to establish relevant metrics
  • Produce recommendations in order to develop higher consistency/increased efficiency on job execution
  • Communicate with Executive Management, Managers and accounting personnel regarding job cost performance, metrics, and continual improvement
  • Perform necessary month-end close entries relating to current open jobs/projects according to GAAP percentage of completion (POC) standards
  • Develop internal reporting for Management to keep apprised of performance and potential issues/areas for improvement
  • Aid in closing projects on a timely basis
  • Protects Company’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Controller
  • Assist in developing/correcting procedures
  • Assist in pushing results through system in timely manner
  • Work closely with Credit, Contract Administration, and Estimating departments to ensure change orders and jobs are processed/closed timely
  • Work closely with Credit, Contract Administration, and Estimating departments to ensure costs are fairly distributed and report back to Management when not
  • Assume responsibility for reporting pre and post job margins
  • Give special attention and attend regular internal meetings for all jobs/projects over $1 Million

Education & Experience
Essential Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
Preferred Education:
  • CPA
  • MBA
Essential Experience: 
  • 3+ years Accounting experience, including exposure to billing and accounts payable functions
  • 1-3 years Financial analysis experience
Preferred Experience: 
  • 1-3 years Costing experience
  • Experience in a sales and distribution environment
  • Previous experience with Oracle JD Edwards
