Position: Shipping Manager

The Shipping Manager works together with the Operations and Distribution Manager to plan, direct, and maintain an efficient warehouse operation at all times.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • This position reports directly to the Operations and Distribution Manager and is responsible for managing both the shipping and receiving departments (the distribution facility at Grant) in addition to the Willow Parkway job warehouse.
  • Implement company policies and procedures consistent with the employee handbook.
  • Assist in creation of warehouse procedures and policies.
  • Implement warehouse policies and procedures consistently.
  • Maintain warehouse facilities to the highest level of cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory including consistent cycle counting.
  • Maintain and manage warehouse facilities’ security.
  • Work in tandem with Installation Supervisor to schedule local equipment deliveries.
  • Maintain the highest level of customer service orientation towards both internal sales personnel and end customers.
  • Be the main liaison between purchasing, sales, customer service and accounting to resolve issues and foster good ongoing lines of communication.
  • Commit to continuous improvement of all warehouse operations.
  • Develop leads in all functional areas (as backup to supervisor).
  • Cross train personnel on regular basis.
  • Perform performance reviews of all warehouse employees.
  • Work with Operations and Distributions Manager on all hiring and firing of personnel as well as timely disciplinary action if needed.
  • Commit to working closely with Human Resources in order to become proficient in the legal aspects of managing company employees.
  • Ability to master computer applications used by the company and use computer applications to the fullest extent including the ability to extract data and reporting from said systems.
  • Assist in new hire training program as requested.
  • Develop metrics with Operations and Distribution Manger to measure department efficiency and productivity and publish on monthly basis. Some metrics should be by department, some by entire operation, and some by individuals.

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to begin work 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. Work other shifts as circumstances require.
  • High School Diploma
  • Read and write English
  • Must be able to lift 75lbs
  • Must be able to operate sit down tow motor, reach truck, and order picker
  • Must be able to operate a box truck
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate prior experience with warehouse systems and scanning technology preferably in a distribution environment
  • Must have prior experience in shipping and receiving functions
  • Must be capable of using Microsoft Office software, specifically Outlook and Excel
  • Must have prior experience using ERP system (e.g. Order Entry, Inventory, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of AS400 system
  • Working knowledge of Auto-Quotes system

Essential Education:

  • High school diploma

Preferred Education:

  • College Degree

Essential Experience:

  • 2-5 years distribution management experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Proven track record on making distribution facility more productive and efficient
